University of Helsinki — Student Requirements University: University of Helsinki Country: Finland Official website: University of Helsinki The University of Helsinki is a highly research-intensive university and offers a limited number of English-taught Bachelor's programmes and a wider range of International Master's programmes. 1. Bachelor's Requirements For international applicants, the University offers two English-taught Bachelor's programmes: Liberal Arts and Sciences Science Applicants need a secondary qualification that gives them eligibility for higher education in the country where the qualification was awarded. For applicants whose previous education does not place them in the relevant Finnish/IB/EB admission group, admission to the English-language Bachelor's programmes can involve SAT or ACT requirements. Important for Nepalese students: A Nepalese +2 qualification needs to be assessed against the University's higher-education eligibility requirements; meeting a general +2 requirement does not automatically guarantee admission. 2. Master's Requirements For an International Master's programme, students generally need: A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent first-cycle qualification The degree must give eligibility for Master's-level study in the country where it was awarded. Sufficient relevant/applicable studies for the particular Master's programme. Required English, Finnish or Swedish language proficiency depending on the programme. Programme-specific admission requirements may apply. Important: A diploma or Higher National Diploma alone does not provide eligibility for a Master's programme. It normally needs to be upgraded to a Bachelor's/top-up degree that provides Master's-level eligibility. 3. English Language Requirement The exact English requirement is programme-specific. Students must prove their language proficiency using one of the University's accepted methods. Therefore, it is better not to advertise one IELTS/PTE score as applying to every programme. 4. Tuition Fees For non-EU/EEA students without an applicable Finnish residence status: English-taught Bachelor's: €13,000/year International Master's: €13,000–€18,000/year, depending on the programme. The tuition fee is generally paid in advance for each academic year. 5. Scholarships Eligible fee-paying Master's applicants can apply for the University of Helsinki's tuition-fee scholarship programme at the same time as their Master's application. Scholarships are aimed at academically excellent non-EU/EEA applicants. The University states that scholarship applicants must have excellent previous academic results and meet the relevant admission and residence-permit requirements. Important: University of Helsinki scholarships do not cover living expenses. 6.
